vaginal yeast infection – how long until I see relief?

I’m 40 years old, and have had a few of these infections before. This one seemed to sneak up on me, but after the first night of monistat, got MUCH worse. Years ago, I had a reaction to tiaconazole (sp?), but switching to monistat helped. It could be a reaction, or just a bad infection. My ONLY symptoms are itching and burning, nothing else. This morning (after the 2nd night of treatment), I’m only a little better. I tried the over-the-counter test to see if it was a yeast infection (I’ve never had anything but those, no bacterial infections), but I had already started treatment – it showed only a slightly elevated Ph level (4.5 is normal, mine was 5.0)…but it said not to test if you had begun any treatment. How long before I see results from the monistat? Can it take a few days?

This is one of the worst ones I’ve had – maybe a change in hormones at my age? Also, will a physician be able to get an accurate test result if I’ve begun treatment already?

Thank you!

Ick. Don’t use those chemicals. Mix 5-10 drops of Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) in 6-8 oz. of water. Douche once daily for one week. Douche more often if desired. Always dilute.

GSE is some wonderful stuff and used for so many things. You can find it at iHerb.com by searching for "GSE." Nutribiotic is by far the best, safest and most reputable GSE brand out there. A little goes a very long way. Just read the reviews on iHerb. Oh, you can also get $5 off your first purchase with coupon code: PUJ001

    Good luck to you!

I’m no doctor and this is probably completely irrelevant … but I had thrush a few months ago, it was itching and burning like crazy… I put cream on it, I can’t remember for the life of me what it’s called, but it’s basically for fungal infections, it was the pharmacy’s own brand. It soothed the itching and burning immediately, I would recommend this. It won’t get rid of the infection but it’ll provide you with temporary relief. Hope you feel better soon :)

I think you should go to the doctor. Yes. the doctor will be able to do an accurate test eventhough you’ve already started treatment. The doctor will do a culture. He will swabb your vagina. He should do the outter part and inside (thats called a culture) & he’ll look at the swabb under a mircoscope. After he does that he should be able to tell you whats wrong. It sounds like a yeast infection. Depending on the doctor he might give you 7days of antibotics to take or he could give you this small one time pill. You take the pill and it starts working right away and within a matter of days the yeast infection is gone.

Hope that helps. I would see the doctor asap!
