ovulating in relation to vaginal discharge.. what gives?

We are ttc baby number two, and im really confused. With the first baby we never charted or were on a sex schedule and i became pregnant within one cycle. This time, we want a sept/ oct baby so we are trying to have sex at the most efficient times. However, im confused. I was supposed to ovulate dec 26- 31, however i had no signs of ovulation ( very low discharge), now, as of a few days ago, im having the typical ovulating discharge ( resembles egg whites, very stretchy). Can i be ovulating a week late? Does this happen often? Thanks!
