Is there an Over the Counter Cure for Bacterial Vaginosis?

I am pretty sure that I have bacterial vaginosis.
I have been experiencing symptoms for about 4 days now, and I do not have health insurance.
Is there something I can buy at walgreens?
woow that sucks.

I’ve gotten many of them and as far as I know the answer is no and the only way to get a diagnosis is you know what. Its either the cream or the pill and are both prescription.

i don’t think so. you gotta have antibiotics for bacterial vaginosis, like metrogel, which is a presciption med. and besides, you have to be seen by a doctor to get diagnosed.

Any specific reason why you wish to take over the counter cure? Have you considered natural home remedies- these are safe, reliable and provide permanent relief from the infection. They are cheap on the pociket too and you dont need a health cover for it.

There are preventive measures, but a cure -no. You need antibiotics to kill the overgrown of the offending organism (flagyl for example).

There are over the counter meds you can buy but in general, they will only give symptomatic relief (ie the soothing of the soreness). You can try a few home remedies to rebalance the naturally occurring bacteria within the vagina, as BV is caused by an imbalance. Live probiotic yogurt has the same bacteria as the "beneficial" bacteria in the vagina so you could try eating some or even dipping a tampon in it and inserting into the vagina for an hour or two. Some women find that adding a couple of cups of cider vinegar to a bath can help to neutralise the condition.

If you are very sore, an ice-pack wrapped in a flannel can be quite soothing.

The use of antibiotics is thought to be controversial by some as the body can become resistant to them in time and the condition becomes harder and harder to cure. In addition, many women find they have a repeat attack within a few weeks of taking them.

No. It is a bacterial infection. You need to take antibiotics prescribed by a doctor to cure your infection.

I got BV for the first time about a year ago. I had no clue what is was, so I did a lot of research online and found so much info. My first reaction, obviously, was to see a doctor, which I had no insurance, so it ended up being a $500 urgent care visit! They gave me the antibiotics and about 2 months later it came back and it was worse! Thats when I started seeing all of the other womens stories online that said this also happened to them. The reason is the antibiotics they give you kill all bacteria, good and bad. But you need the good to keep the bad away. So without the good, the bad end up taking over again. I got permenently cured with hydrogen peroxide douche. I know it sounds SO crazy, but there have been medical studies that say H2O2 kills bad bacteria and promotes growth of good bacteria, because the good bacteria in your vagina actually naturally produces H2O2. I filled a needleless syringe with straight H2O2 (3%) and squirted it (like a douche) into my vagina once a night for 7 nights, just like in the study. It worked. Go to http://www.earthclinic.com
Click on ailments, find and click on bacterial vaginosis, and there are so many remedies, as well as other womens stories, and what worked for them. If the H2O2 sounds too strange to you, there are other options that helped other women on this site. Good Luck!!!
