My doctor gave me something to treat it at 16 weeks. Most doctors do. I don't understand why they won't do anything about it. Bring that up,and mention the information you found. Most doctors treat that at 16 weeks. I don't understand why they are telling you to wait until you have the baby. I would seek a second opinion if that's the only option they're giving you. Or see a different doctor. Left untreated it can cause tons of bad things to happen.

EDIT-There has been no found cause of BV. Yest infections can be caused by antibiotics, yes. BV there's no determined cause.

I received a cream to use while I was pregnant. I did not know you could wait. It is so uncomfortable anyway and being pregnant with it sucks. There are medicines the doctor could give. Ask him/her. You may need an opinion from another doctor. BTW m son was born fine. 9 pds and 7 ounces.

right, well bacterial vaginosis is pretty much a term they use for a yeast infection. i got it while i was pregnant and i had a perfectly health baby. i didn't even finish off the treatment before i had her. it's not a big deal i promise. have you been taking antibiotics? that is the main cause of it.

How does having BV affect my pregnancy?
Having BV when you're pregnant may raise your risk for preterm labor and birth. Some studies have also linked the infection to a higher risk of miscarriage, preterm premature rupture of the amniotic membranes (PPROM), and uterine infection after delivery.

That said, many women with BV have perfectly normal pregnancies. Experts don't yet know why only some women with BV end up delivering prematurely. Some researchers think that BV may be just a sign of other infections or problems that lead to preterm birth. They do know that women who are diagnosed with BV early in pregnancy are at a significantly higher risk for problems than those who get the infection later in pregnancy.

Having BV also makes you more susceptible to certain sexually transmitted infections (STIs), such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, and HIV, if you're exposed to them.

What are the symptoms of BV?
At least half the women who get BV have no symptoms at all. If you do have symptoms, you might notice a thin, white or gray discharge with a foul or fishy smell. This odor is most apparent after sex, when the discharge mixes with semen. You may also have burning when you pee or irritation in your genital area, though it's not common. Let your healthcare provider know if you have these symptoms. Before prescribing any medication for you, she'll examine a sample of your vaginal fluid and cervical secretions to see if you have BV or another infection.

A lot of common medications can not be used during pregnancy because of the risk to the fetus but your doctor is who you should be having this discussion with

I had the same thing show up on my pap at 13 weeks. My doctor put me on meds to clear it up, which was nice because it was a bit uncomfortable for me. But not all woman will experience symptoms. I guess it would be up to your doctor's discretion if you need meds or not. You can read more about it at:

    I hope that helps.

Congrats and it sounds like your going to be a great mommy! I too had the strep-b and luckily i got my doc to do an elective c-section cuz i too was scared of what i read. My point to my doc was that if the baby was turned or had the cord wrapped around them, you would do all you could to protect them then, but you can't prevent something like them not getting the group b strep?? I got the c-section and i don't know how you feel about that, but i do know a few ppl who had vaginal labor and the medicine prevented them from getting it. I know it's scary especially if you don't want a c-section but the perk of it was i skipped labor, didn't stretch down below, and they suck a lot of the fluid from you so you don't leak long. Talk to your doc and if you feel it's something to worry about and your present doc isn't answering your concerns, get a 2nd opinion!!! Good luck girl!
