TOO MUCH INFORMATION. If you have a queesy stomach, dont read..Okay. I’m 28 weeks pregnant today and I have bacterial vaginosis. My dr. told me I had it after doing a pelvic exam and looking under the microscope when I was only 4 weeks pregnant! He gave me a few different antibiotics to get rid of it but it’d go away only while I was taking the medication daily. The very next day I was out, it would start to come back. He told me at that point not to worry about it and he would take care of it later on in the pregnancy because he claimed some of the stronger antibiotics werent safe at this point in my pregnancy. Everytime I go in and ask about it he said he’s not concerned with that right now. I’ve called other doctors and asked them what they thought and they always gave me the same answer. " they dont know my history and my dr knows what he’s doing" I don’t have the insurance to just go out and get a new dr. I’ve done some research and I haven’t found any information saying that it could hurt the baby but it was just mainly annpoying and a bother.. I have tried a lot. I’ve inserted regular (unsweetened) yogurt up there, I tried eating unsweetened yogurt but that didn’t seem to help at all either, unless I ate a HUGE mass of it and I can’t do that everyday, it makes me sick.. It has gotten so bad that I have to wear a panty liner ALL THE TIME because the discharge is so rediculous and the smell is terrible..My question is, since my dr won’t give me anything to help… is there any home remedies that can get rid of it, or at least make it better that I can do since I’m pregnant? I dont want to do anything dangerous to the baby. This is getting unbareable for me. This is really affecting my life now. I don’t feel comfortable wearing shorts. I refuse to have sex because I’m embarassed about the discharge and smell…Please if anyone knows of anything that can help me I’d really appreciate it.

Please no negative comments. If it isn’t helpful or nice keep it to yourself. I’m asking because I need help and advice I don’t need to be critisized. Thank you.

  1. Ok..I am in my first trimester and have bacteria vaginosis and a yeast infection. My doctor wont treat the BV until after I am in my second trimester. The yeast infection is being treated without a prescription and with yogurt (eating it). Consuming yogurt helps the yeast infection NOT the BV. BV is an imbalance of the good and bad bacteria in your vagina. BV is VERY common in pregnant women. Two common anti biotics are metronidazole or clindamycin. The doses differ depending on how far along you are. Please discuss this with your doctor and tell him you are worried about the chances of preterm labor if it is left untreated. Some things to try in the meantime: Drink cranberry juice, extra water, and try some more priobotic yogurt. Best of Luck!

  2. Hi, Bacterial vaginosis can be really frustrating, and it is worse when you are pregnant, especially on top of everything else that is going on.

Normally your doctor would prescribe antibiotics for vaginosis, but because you are pregnant, you may be limited to the types of antibiotics that you are able to use.

Here are a few things that you could try.

First of all take a look at the type of yogurt you are using. Just because it is unsweetened does not mean it is the right one. You should try "live yogurt", this type of yogurt has a ton of good bacteria in it and helps to reduce the bad bacteria which is causing the infection.

You can also try sitting in a bath in which you have mixed some apple cider vinegar in the water. The acid that is in the vinegar wil, help to kill bad bacteria.

This next one does not seem very nice but can be really effective. Insert a clove of garlic in the vagina prior to going to sleep, this will also help to kill off bad bacteria.

The reason that you have bacterial vaginosis is that the balance of bacteria in your vagina has been disrupted, meaning that there is more bad bacteria than good. So you need to restore this balance. Fortunately there are plenty of natural remedies for bacterial vaginosis that can help you.

Try looking at the resource below for further information. I hope that helps.

  3. I am also 28 weeks pregnant and have the same problem but my doctor prescribed me flagyl 500mg for it and Im in the same situation its constant if its not a yeast infection in bv they just keep treating me but I have drank the no sugar added cranberry juice and the Greek yogurt its great for you and taste great it helps alot the greek yogurt is completly natural so your actually getting what you need out of it and not all the additives. Best of luck i feel for ya chick I know how frustrating it is.
