I have taken antibiotics over and over by the doctor. I have had my regular paps done. I don’t douche and I haven’t had and don’t have multiples of sex partners. I am 17 weeks pregnant. I do sit in bath tubs about 2-3 times a week with baby oil to help me skin. I only wear cotton underwear. No thongs. I wipe from front to back and I clean myself with antibacterial soap. I am not having sex since my husband and I are working on getting a divorce. I do have a small vibrator which is not used often and I do clean it. I don’t know why or how I keep getting BV. I just know every time I go to the doctors they are sending me home with more antibiotics and telling me I have BV all over again.

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most common cause of vaginal infection. It is less commonly referred to as vaginal bacteriosis[1]. It is not considered to be a sexually transmitted infection[2] (see causes below). BV is caused by an imbalance of naturally occurring bacterial flora, and should not be confused with yeast infection (candidiasis), or infection with Trichomonas vaginalis (trichomoniasis) which are not caused by bacteria.
Treatment -Bacterial vaginosis can be treated with antibiotics such as metronidazole or clindamycin, either orally or vaginally. However, there is usually a high rate of recurrence.[9]
BV is twice as common as thrush, and it is estimated that 1 in 3 women will develop the condition at some point in their lives.[13][14][15] In addition to the physical discomfort and symptoms, BV can also have a significant impact on a woman’s quality of life.
Currently, there are very few over the counter products that address bacterial vaginosis. They work after different principles:
1. Eliminating the unwanted bacteria. Example Tea-tree oil products, FemiGel. Same principle as the antibiotics.
2. Adding buffer / acid to lower the pH. RepHresh is an example.
3. Adding lactic bacteria. Fem-dophilus (Jarrow Formulas) is a lactobacillus product which specifically claims to help maintain healthy vaginal flora.[16]
4. Adding growth substrate for the beneficial lactic acid bacteria to grow and produce lactic acid [17] directly into the vagina. The natural lactic acid bacteria multiply, bringing about a healthy environment. LadyBalance is based on this principle [18].
Ugh you sounds just like me..I been having this problem for years! Its sooo annoying and those antibiotics are the worst..especially those glue smelling, nasty tasting pills…yuck!! Everything you said is exactly what I do and I just keep getting it. According to my doc some woman just get it more than others…to me thats not a valid explanation..its embarrassing, it stinks, I feel like ppl can smell me, eww just ewww…
Antibiotics themselves can cause problems down there like yeast infections which can turn into that. It could be the bathtub doing it… My mom ALWAYS gets some sort of infection when she sits in the tub. lol… Hope you get better!
You need to start taking a vitamin/mineral called acidophilous. Get the kind that needs to be refrigerated. Take it morning and night and I promise that this will clear it up. It is good to take when pregnant too. This stuff balances the ph levels in your body. If you want to rub baking soda all over inside and outside of the vagina, this will help any itching, discomfort and get rid of the smell.
I was tempted to call the OB/GYN today for a third round of meds, but i have found information that stopped me.
My problem typically involves both yeast and bacteria, and the pharmaceuticals are painful and expensive. (Not to mention, dangerous.) It’s also frustrating for a completely monogamous couple to be left feeling like this is somehow sexually transmitted.
i found good info that finally explored some real reasons for the cause of an imbalance.
I’ve been using home remedies this week, but the info that i found given me a better strategy.
BV is a real problem for some women -
Hormonal changes can cause the ph balance of the vagina to alter and be more susceptible to this type of infection.
I am not a professional medical person, I have had problems myself with BV (especially when I went through menopause.)
Usually the Metro-gel cleared it up, most of the times, altho, it is well known that BV keeps reoccuring often in some women.
Would it be possible to try another physician?
Also, maybe sitting in the bath may be introducing bacteria in the vagina -
Maybe, not doing it as often might help.
Take Care!
you may have a certain area of vaginal bacteria virus, maybe by having sex with your husband, maybe eur husband has a virus and he passed it on to you, there are un certain reason’s why these things happen, so sometimes we have no clue why certain things happen, there are problems regarding certain problems in your reproductive system as well, HPV- is human puerperal virus, it causes Serial cancer in your private area, which if i were you i would go to a gynecologists and ask them what you should do, because if you don’t treat this problem now, it could be worse later>
