usually they give you a cream to use, Metrogel, i think.

If you are sexually active, the other person may be giving it back to you each time.

Hi i was in a similar situation so i feel for you.

Bacterial vaginosis is caused by an imbalance of bacteria in your vagina, using antibiotics was not really effective for me as they kill all bacteria good and bad. I decided to look for a natural remedy online when i discovered a really informative web site http://cureforbv.com i suggest you take a look as it should have some more helpful stuff for you to read through.

rinse and wash daily, if not more than once a day if it smells like that, thats what i have my girlfriend do, and sometimes i help her wash it in the shower? that always works too, team effort!

  2. Hale says:

It’s supposed to smell like that, just a little bit. It doesn’t really smell like fish, it’s just that that is the only thing that is a little bit the same. Tell your bf that if he doesn’t like it, stay away from it. That should shut him up.

  3. misssims456 says:

I was diagnosed with bacterial vaganosis when I was pregnant it basically when you have more bad bacteria in the vagina then good ones. I was prescribed a medicine called flagyl it gets rid or it. There is a certain way that you have to wipe and wash your vagina. I didn’t know this you have to wipe from top to bottom all the time. Which is from the part that is closer to your stomach to the part that is closer to your butt. Not wiping this way can cause bv and after it goes away it can bring it back. Also try using a plain vinegar and water douche no fragrance. If this doesn’t help then you will need to go to the gynecologist. Good luck

  4. faq88 says:

Fishy odor is the most common symptom of bacterial vaginosis. The only way to know for sure is to take a sample of the discharge and look at it under a microscope. Do you have itchiness and irritation? I you are unsure you need to have it looked at. For the time being do not douche or wash the area. This can upset the normal flora and make it worse. I would also recommend avoiding sex. Check out the following link, which has a lot of good info about ways to avoid bacterial vaginosis and treatment options. Best of luck.

How to get rid of Bacterial Vaginosis?

Hello..I have been looking around all morning about this. I have had bacterial vaginosis infections on and off CONSTANTLY it seems, for like 5 years. I go to the doctor and take the prescribed antibiotics (pills, gels, whatever) and being an ANTIbiotic, those kill bacterial indiscriminately, so the good and necessary bacterias are killed alongside with the bad. Sure, the prescriptions treat it and it goes away. But then after doing anything sexual, i have another infection all over again, sometimes even after just having sex once! So needless to say, I am chronic sufferer of BV. I was doing research about it online but most every site is out to get you to buy something, I want to avoid doing that! I was more looking for some things I can do on my own. So far the closest and best thing I think I’ve found is to try Acidophilus (& maybe in combination with folic acid.) My question is, does anyone know anything that can be used to treat or perhaps even cure BV?! I am soo tired of having recurring infections! The smell is so strong and pungent at times! Also, does anyone know what causes this to happen so often and what the root of the problem is? Instead of just treating it, it’d be miraculous to actual figure it out and CURE it. Any advice or help would be appreciated!

    Take probiotics…

During the antibiotics to cure the infection, take a probiotic (good bacteria) pill in between the antibiotic doses – has to be at least 2 hours before or two hours after to work.

Continue with the probiotics after the antibiotics are done and you may find you have fewer or no infections anymore.

you have to go to the doctor’s and get them to take a look down there to see if you have an infection. if you do, they’ll more than likely prescribe you flagyl. you take 3 pills a day for a week, and it goes away. if you have a yeast infection, they’ll probably tell you to get an at-home kit to take care of it.

but, go to the doctor to make sure you have an infection before you do anything.

I got this when I first got pregnant. It really sucks, and for a lot of women/ girls it is recurring. This is what I did. I took the pills they gave me, drank 1 glass of cranberry juice in the morning and evening, ate yogurt (with live cultures) for breakfast and any time I needed a snack. I also read if you stick some yogurt on a tampon and shove it up there, it will help kill the bad bacteria. I didnt try this, but many others did. Cranberry juice and yogurt will really help you out though! Good Luck, I hope you beat it!

  2. Just me says:

This is caused by an imbalance of naturally occurring bacteria in the vagina.
The treatment, as you said, is through antibiotics like Metronidazole or Clindamycin.
As the vaginal area is acidic by nature a mild vinegar and water douche will help you remain fresh and may lend itself to rebalancing the bacterial count.
If this is a reoccurring problem, see your Doctor for further advice.
    Take care.

  3. Vivbikerbabe says:

Strange as it may sound, being too clean is often what causes the problem in the first place, try just using a warm flannel not, hot, to wash, NO soap, It is more than possible that after the antbiotics you have got thrush, the symptoms are very similar. Go to your GP get a swab done and they will then know which treatment to give you.just keep taking warm baths until the swab results are returned. It will ease the symptoms, the tampon trick that someone else mentioned also helps, but do please consider it may now be fungal not bacterial

you were given metronidazole it should have been a five day course of 3 pills a day, you must finish the course, you should also have been given antibacterial cream

  2. lynn says:

Take a bath with a couple tablespoons of baking soda in the bath water. If you do this a couple times a week for a few weeks you should feel a lot better.

  3. KPharm87 says:

If you were using Metrogel, you should have used it twice a day for 5 days. Even if the symptoms feel like they are going away it’s very important to continue to use the gel until you are scheduled to stop, otherwise the infection just comes back. They only give you 5 applicators so it’s very important to wash the applicators with warm water, soap, and dry them really well. If you are taking Flagyl (Metronidazole pills) you should also take 2 a day for 5 days, same thing with the Metrogel, don’t stop until you’ve finished the dose! That’s the key to getting rid of it. The bacteria is still there even if you have no symptoms so using all the medication is best.

  4. Ya Ya D says:

I have had the same problem along with the metro gel for 5 days I had to lay off of the tub baths and take more showers. I was told when you take baths that you are washing all of the good bacteria out that is the reason the bad bacteria multiples.

The website Amber gave you is excellent. It says:

Treatment options for bacterial vaginosis include:

In about 1 out of 4 women, bacterial vaginosis symptoms resolve on their own.1 This happens when the vaginal lactobacilli organisms increase to their normal levels, and other bacteria levels drop.

Antibiotic medication (oral or vaginal). Antibiotics can kill the problem bacteria causing bacterial vaginosis symptoms but sometimes don't reverse the underlying cause. Therefore, symptoms recur in about 1 out of 3 of women after antibiotic treatment.

For some women, bacterial vaginosis goes away without treatment.

To my knowledge, bacterial vaginosis would need to be treated with an antibiotic. The over-the-counter products treat yeast vaginitis, which is a completely different type of infection.

  2. Lindsay B says:

bacterial vaginosis is caused when there is a disruption in your vaginia and your normal flora is over grown. Lactobacillis is normal flora, it's also what keeps the pH in your vaginia lower than the rest of your body. I would think that by using the pH creme, it would help your lactobacillis regrow over the bad stuff that has taken over.

  3. zurama says:

Stay away from antibiotics if possible! Sounds to me like your immune system is weak.

Home Treatment (Lactobacillus-get it at health food store)

If you have been diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis (BV), you can use Lactobacillus to help restore the balance of vaginal bacteria, either along with or instead of antibiotic treatment.

    Lactobacillus for bacterial vaginosis

Lactobacillus organisms stop the growth of harmful bacteria, boost the immune system, and increase resistance to infection.

Bacterial vaginosis, also called BV is the most common vaginal infection in women of childbearing age. It happens when the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina is disrupted and replaced by an overgrowth of certain bacteria.

If the infection isn't treated, the bacteria may get up into the uterus or the fallopian tubes and cause more serious infections. Treating bacterial vaginosis lowers this risk.

Also remember to stay away from milk and cheese, but do eat yogurt which contains Lactobacillus.

  4. suzj136 says:

I have tried the RePHresh and it seems to work but only works for about 3 days like it says it will then you have to use another one. I have searched the internet countless times for something better to help and I have yet to find anything. But everything reacts different with everyone
