I don't think they've ever pinpointed a cause for it, I guess some people are just more susceptible (like some people get lots of yeast infections). But, if left untreated, I think it can have serious health affects. But get to your doctor so you can get some meds. Sounds like bacterial vaginosis. You need to go to your gynocologist, because there's nothing over the counter to treat it.
