Do i have Bacterial Vaginosis?

I’m not sure what happened but I notice a change in the odor and amount of discharge I now have. Its been about 3 months since I first noticed it. Its rather unpleasant odor, I never had smells like this before. There is more discharge, and its more yellow than the usual milky color. But unlike the typical symptoms I guess it doesn’t smell fishy but more like uriney… And also unlike the typical BV symptoms it doesnt itch or burn around the area. So confused… Also Im 19, not sexual active, I’ve never had sex. I don’t know if this is just a part of developing or if its an infection.

If its not BV, then how do I get back to normal? I feel like I can’t have anyone sit near me or by my legs cause it might smell, so selfconcious now :(

When I had BV I had the same things going on.

I didnt actually think I had it because my symptoms wasnt exactly like it. Instead of the fishy smell, I just had a strong order that I couldnt really put a name to. I had a huge amount of discharge & though I never itched..Its burned after I got done peeing.

My advice is go to your doctor if it is BV then she will give you pills for it. You will have to take them for 7 days, two times a day & it will take care of it. & if its not BV then the doctor will be able to tell you what is going on

    Best of luck

  2. silly me says:

Never wash yourself internally. The worst smells are caused by having an abundance of bad bacteria down there and washing the inside of your vagina causes you to have more bad bacteria, not less. This is because a woman’s natural discharge inhibits the growth of hostile bacteria. By cleaning your discharge away you would be creating an environment in which bad bacteria can multiply — not a good idea. Douching is the cause of many bacterial and fungal infections.

So, only wash yourself externally; never internally!

  3. Say says:

Hard to say, you need to go to the doctor and they will be able to give you an examination and let you know what it is for sure.

    Bacterial Vaginosis Symptoms

Bacterial vaginosis has more than one symptom, which are categorized as primary and secondary. You should be aware of the symptoms and never ignore any of these symptoms as the condition can lead to other health problems. The truth is that many times, Bacterial vaginosis was not diagnosed after a pelvic exam and some women may not experience the symptoms to large degrees. Thus, even the smallest symptom should be reported to your physician or the proper treatment should be used.

    Bacterial Vaginosis Primary Symptoms

•Vaginal discharge: The discharge is usually yellow or green, but some women have noticed a gray or even white discharge with BV.

•Vaginal odor: The odor is the most common and noticeable symptom which smells fishy. If you notice this odor, you have Bacterial vaginosis and need to seek treatment.

•After sexual activity: The vaginal discharge will be increased with the same odor.
    Bacterial vaginosis Secondary Symptoms

    •Swollen vagina

    •Vaginal itch

    •Pain during sexual intercourse

    •Urination is painful

    •Burning sensation in the vagina

    •Irritation of the vagina
If you notice one or both of the primary symptoms especially the odor along with two or three of the secondary symptoms you have bacterial vaginosis and need to seek treatment.

Can bacterial vaginosis cause continuing problems?

The answer is yes! Bacterial vaginosis can move up from the vagina and into the womb. From here, the infection can move to the fallopian tube, which brings on pelvic inflammatory disease. Pelvic inflammatory disease can lead to infertility. In some cases, bacterial vaginosis has been the cause of miscarriages late in pregnancy and premature labor.

The odor alone can bring on depression and cause you to want to stay away from others, which can cause all kinds of problems for your social activities. Since bacterial vaginosis is painful during intercourse and you do not want your partner to smell the odor, your relationship can also suffer. Your partner may not understand why you are pushing him away and may believe it is his fault.

Curing bacterial vaginosis is essential instead of just a temporary solution.

Do I have Bacterial Vaginosis?

Well, I just got on birth control two weeks ago. Lately, my vagina discharge tends to get very crusty and remains crusty even after washing it. The color is a yellowish and before doing my laundry I decided to wash out my panties and there was a digusting smell along with it. It’s not really a fishy scent. Just foul smelling.

It sounds like an infection. There are over the counter tests for bacterial infections which is really just a piece of pH paper. The best way to diagnose an infection is to see your gynecologist and have them do a Microscopic Wet Prep and/or a Vaginal Culture. The wet prep can be done in the office and you can possibly leave there with a prescription in hand. It doesn’t sound like a yeast infection. Yeast infection usually produces a large amount of a white discharge, sometimes looking like cottage cheese. You can buy the treatment for it at the drug store (Monistat is one)

Do i have bacterial vaginosis?

I have had my period for about 6 years. I have only had sex twice and i think i have bacterial vaginosis. My discharge is off white and sticky and it smells verry fishy ALL the time, and i have more discharge than normal, but my vagina is never itchy or red. Are these symptoms of bacterial vaginosis?
Is there a cure for bacterial vaginosis?
How did i get it, and will it go away by drinking alot of water?

  1. Pem says:

You could have BV. You will need to see you doctor so that they can take a swab to see if you have BV and then give you antibiotics.

Drinking lots of water won’t cure BV, but it is good for you anyway!

  2. KPharm87 says:

Sounds like it – go to the doctor to make sure it’s not an STD. If it’s BV they’ll give you antibiotics or a vaginal gel. I would ask for the gel the pills tend to make people nauseous but wear pantiliners if you get the gel because it will leak.

  3. Davonte says:

It does sound like BV. Chek out the websites below for more info. You should take Acidophilous Tablets to help balance the PH levels down there. Also Folic Acid tablets help heaps too.

  4. gemi523 says:

You can get bacterial vaginosis regardless of how many times you have had sex or not. It is not solely a sexually transmitted disease. What it is, is simply a bacteria. Your symptoms sound like you should get it checked out and a culture done on the discharge. You do not necessarily need to be itchy or red to have bacterial vaginosis. No, Drinking lots of water will not make the infection go away. With some vaginal cream presecribed by your Doctor such as Flagyl, it may clear up.

  5. C says:

go to http://www.earthclinic.com, click on ailments, then bacterial vaginosis, there are some helpful remedies to help with the problem.

  6. Jim says:

Yes, that sounds like bacterial vaginosis. You will have to do more than just drink water to get rid of it.

You can either go to a doctor (they will give you anti biotics) or you can use home remedies. I found a blog that explained which home remedies work.

I’ll leave a link to the blog below.

    hope this helps…

  7. Wilter Q says:

bacterial vaginosis symptoms can be embarrassing and distressing. This is a very common condition and you will be surprised at the number of women that have suffered from it, and are suffering from it.

The fluid discharged from the vagina can vary in different women. Some women have discharge closer to a yellow colour. This discharge is one of the most common bacterial vaginosis symptoms.

When the discharge is released it can be accompanied by a burning sensation, although this is not the case for every woman. The discharge is mainly brought on by any disturbance to the vagina. This generally means during and after sex.

  8. Pam says:

The symptoms you are mentioning can be bacterial vaginosis or it can even be yeast infection. You should visit a doctor to find out whether it is BV. Once you know for sure it is BV then you can start a cure for bacterial vaginosis. This is a very common problem and many women get it so don’t get upset. BV can be easily cured permanently if you go for correct treatment.

    Hope this help.

    Pam

  9. Richard says:

Yes, you do have the signs of bacterial vaginosis (fishy smell is especially a sign of BV).

Drinking a lot of water wont cure BV.

Cures for BV include the following:
    1. Antibiotics prescribed by the doctor – but this only solves the BV problem temporarily and tends to come back.
    2. Natural BV medication as Femanol.
    3. Using Natural remedies as: Eating Yogurt containing probiotics and can insert it down there. Alternatively, you can insert some of the acidophilus pills down there – its much cleaner than using yoghurt.

Do I have bacterial vaginosis?

I don't have any itchiness but I do have
white/yellowish discharge sometimes
and some fishy odor a few hours after
I shower. Do I have bacterial vaginosis?

I just did a little online research. They
say there are natural treatments, including
taking folic acid and "soak tampons in yogurt
to treat bacterial vaginosis vaginally"

Do they work? Where can I get folic acid?
Is it a prescribed drug?

Is there any other ways to cure or help
this problem?

Btw, does feminine wash or something
called vagsil (the one you see in supermarket)
work also?

Thanks.

P.S: Don't just tell me to go to a doc because
I can't afford it.

  2. Michelle says:

Store bought treatments like Vagisil do not cure any infections but only treat your symptoms until you can get an antibiotic from your doctor.

Only an antibiotic can cure your infection and yes, it does sound like you have bacterial vaginosis.

You can go to a clinic and they can test you for it there. It could be free and if not, it will still be a lot cheaper than seeing a doctor. They can also prescribe you an antibiotic there.

Sorry to tell you but the only way you can treat BV is with antibiotics from a doc..folic acid is a vitamin you can get over the counter, but it's not going to cure you from BV. You shouldn't use a tampon for anything other than a period. If you don't have the money to go to the doc then try the health department.

  3. LINDA R says:

Bacterial vaginosis is a bacterial infection that can ONLY be cured by taking antibiotics prescribed by a doctor. Sorry, but you must see a doctor to get this taken care of, before it gets worse.
Edit: Also, the only way to find out if you actually have BV, or some other infection, is to see a doctor. You need to make sure you get a diagnosis from a doctor so you can get appropriate treatment. You can not be diagnosed or treated over the computer.

do i have bacterial vaginosis?

I have experienced a discharge for about a year now, It's a white strong smelling discharge, that smells fishy/uriney

I have been tested for stds and thrush and i'm all clear

however when my boyfriend 'came' inside me the symptoms got worse.

I heard that seamen can change the vaginas pH or something?

The doctors are useless so I guess i am going to have to go at it alone.

But ever since he came inside me it has been awfully sore and the discharge has got even worse. My boyfriend is also clear of STD's and we are trying for a baby, hence why we did not use protection

Thanks in advance hunnys! X

I strongly advice on a womb scan. Growths like fibroids cause smells like these.

  2. Angela G says:

Sure sounds like you do. And sounds like you need to see a different doctor. Other than STDs, STIs and such they have to check for other things as well. could be that you are prone to yeast infections. And you've had them for quite a while which can get in the way of you getting pregnant.
Yes, semen does change your pH balance. But you need to know what is causing the pain. different doctors can help

You can get vaginosis without having sex. It comes from a bacteria most likely from not wiping correctly after a bowel movement. You need a prescription from the Doctor.

  2. gangadharan_nair says:

Testing for bacterial vaginosis: Your doctor may take a sample of a cervical or vaginal discharge for laboratory analysis
    # Treatment of bacterial vaginosis: Antibiotics – Metronidazole 500mg 2-3 times a day for 7-10 days

  3. mrs Foge 2008 says:

4 words… planned parenthood / family planning. These professionals cannot release medical information without your consent no matter what age you are. Not only that, they will not charge you if you are uninsured or fall under certain earning guidelines. And if you fall over the guidelines or have insurance the insurance will cover most of it with probably a small co-pay or if you do not meet the earning guidelines and make more then the limit, there will still be a small co-pay. Go have yourself checked. If you feel that you have to tell your mom that you need to go to the doctor for it, your family doctor can refer you to a gynecologist. As said by one of the other responders.. bacterial vaginosis can be spread by not wiping right after a bowel movement. So dont fret, you honestly dont have to tell your mom how you got it.

  4. Vicky S says:

Mrs Foge 2008 said it all. You should support Planned Parenthood anyway, even if you are not yet a parent yourself.

Do I have bacterial Vaginosis?

I’ve noticed this like five months ago.

Here are my symptoms:

a strong yeast like smelling discharge

and occasional itching and irritation

The weird thing is, my discharge only smells really bad when it’s on my underwear. but when i let it drip on my hand, it doesn’t really have a scent.

and i know it sounds really gross, but when i stick my finger up my you know what, it comes out smelling kinda musty and fishy with white stuff.

My mom just wants to cure it with natutal stuff, but I don’t think it will work.

I REALLY wanna go to the doctors, but it costs 50$ to go and my mom doesn’t have the money.

I’m so scared it might be something serious I’m almost crying here!

Nuh! you are worried for nothing. It is quite natural at young age. I had the same problem just two years ago. My panty was always wet and I even saw it dropping on toilet while passing bowl or peeing. I felt it when it dropped. Sometimes I took it out with finger. It used to itch.

I never took any medicine nor I went to any doctor. I started using scented panty liner (always brand).

It helped me stay dry, smell had gone. Itchy gone by itself. And I am perfectly fine now. Do not have that problem anymore.

Is it smelly? How old are you? Then I will know…So you probably have a mild case of bacterial vaginosis. Go to planned parenthood and get a prescription. By the way this can happen whether or not you've ever had sex. These type of infections come and go sometimes.

  2. k8ie girl says:

i ahve the same thing, but i dont know either maybe we cud share this question…email me: dudegals2000@yahoo.com

  3. D D says:

In general, the most common symptom of BV is a fishy odor, especially after intercourse. Discharge, is usually white or gray; and can be thin. Women with BV may also have burning during urination or itching around the outside of the vagina, or both

  4. christnp says:

It sounds like it's probably normal. If it has a strong smell only sometimes, then turns back into a normal, mild smell, then it's probably just changes associated with your cycle. (Discharge does change during your cycle)
