I had sex with a man 2 weeks ago and just as a precaution got the morning after pill. I got a funny looking discharge about 2 days after i took the pill. It is like a blood/brown/flesh-like discharge! Its been going on for over a week now and i am getting so sore and stingy down below, its almost impossible to walk. Is this normal or what is wrong?

It takes a few days. I have some information here on the infection that you can read up on. You may have to get a second course of antibiotics. Avoid alcohol and sex until you are healed.

I have been through all the embarrassment and frustration of bacterial vaginosis (vaginitis) you described. It’s not only uncomfortable, but it seemed to me that many of the treatments aggravated the situation even more than helped it. I had my worst bouts with vaginitis and yeast infections not during a pregnancy, but was still worried about all the side effects of everything prescribed. And it probably makes you worry about whether or not your natural defenses have been compromised when you need to be your healthiest, not to mention concerns about perinatal infections (among other things) that could result from not treating the vaginosis.

This sounds really gross but it WORKS!!! Get some plain yogurt at the grocery store and insert it into your vagina. If you have a plunger from the gel, use that to insert it. Just fill up the plunger, you can’t use to little or to much, and insert. The acidophilus from the yogurt will kill the yeast infection. It is the cheapest and BEST WAY to get rid of a yeast infection. Just insert it before bed. It will not hurt you, the coolness of the yogurt is comforting, and it really really works.

I always do that when I feel an infection coming on. It works wonders. REALLY — try it. My doc told me to do this years ago…….and I have been doing it ever since. It is the best!!

It also won’t hurt you to eat it as well. The more you can pump into your system, the more it will help you.

OMG I had that numerous times and I was finally diagnosed as being a chronic case. Nothing helped…until I had a new doctor. She told me about this stuff that they sell at natural food stores. It is called fem dophilus. It comes in a pink and white box. You can google it, I’m sure. It has to stay refrigerated and is sold out of refrigerator. It is the best stuff. Since you’re pregnant, ask your doctor first, but I am almost sure it is fine. It is natural but has to stay refrigerated because it contains live bacteria that is healthy for your female tract.

IDK if your doctor explained why you get BV but mine did to me and she says your body is deficient in some sort of good bacteria that kills off the bad bacteria so all the bad stuff grows uncontrolled, resulting in BV. Fem dophilus provides your body with that good stuff. When I took it, I took 2 pills a day for the first week and then 1 pill a day after that. It hasn’t come back since. That was September 2009. I would try it if I were you.

Well if you took the oral antifungal known as fluconazal (spelling) also known as diflucan, it can take a while to work. It took mine 2 weeks to go away with meds.

Your vagina tends to produce more mucus during pregnancy. Yeast and bacteria thrive in warm moist areas. Try to sleep without underwear on. Avoid wearing fabrics that don’t breath well, like spandex and polyesters. Cotton is good. Eating yogurt (unsweetened) once a day also helps your body produce beneficial bacteria that will fight the yeast and bacterial vaginosis.

Unfortunately all them hormones are out of whack and causing this. The only thing to really do is keep going to the doctor and getting meds. The good news is that you are in your second trimester and the medications have really no risk so it’s ok, don’t freak out about that. It will get better as your body gets used to the hormone rise. Don’t have sex, douche, or take any baths. For now just wash in that area with water or a very hypo allergenic vaginal wash. Eat yogurt and keep your doctor informed of this problem.

It takes longer then 3 days to really notice a change with infections and sometimes it takes a second dose of another antibiotic to really work, hang in there and if you’re not better after 10 days then go back.

the yogurt, im not so sure about the vinegar, but i know the yogurt wont hirt the baby,.. however i wouldnt be sticking anything that wasnt mean to be put up there into the cavity itself. this can cause more irritation and make any infections you have worse, plus open you up to even more infections. if i was you, id rub the yogurt on the outside portion of your genitalia and maybe within the first inch or so of your vaginal cavity,.. but much more than that could be unsafe. that amount should be just enough to help relieve some of your symptoms.

however, i am no doctor. at all. ive delt with the same problem ;/ and yogurt helped. but again,.. you should probably ask an actual doctor.

BV honks. Usually like fish (which is where they fish put downs come from – bv is so common and some girls have had it so long they think it’s normal). But I’ve had bv and it smelt like onions Also the discharge can be yellow or greenish, and if it’s really bad the discharge is foamy. The discharge can irritate the skin.

Thrush can be a thick white discharge but it can also be heavy and milky. It sometimes itches. It smells but not too strong, and not really bad. More like a yeast/bread smell.

Yeast infections tend to not smell as badly as bacterial vaginosis. Bacterial vaginosis tends to have a stronger smell and a heavier discharge. Add to this the fact that yeast infections are caused by a fungus whereas bacterial vaginosis is caused by bacteria in your vagina. Whatever the case may be, go see your ob/gyn asap. They will do a full exam and let you know what is going on with you.

I think you have taken the wrong medication since penicillin does not cure vaginosis.

I normally say 3 days to be safe. You’re right on the border. I would recommend waiting the 3 days. You’ll know fairly quickly if the reaction is still there because you’ll vomit.

for?
Surely your health matters more than drinking Alcohol?
In some of your recent posts you state you are pregnant- well if you are – take the pills and avoid alcohol.

Only an alcoholic would have problems with this simple requirement for the prevention of cross infection to your child.

You are free to do what you like (unless you are in the US-re -boozing while pregnant)

I’ll tell you I have seen people get very sick,drinking on Flagyl- but hey,do what you like.
You do know you wont get rid of the infection if you drink "Beer" on top of this med.

I’d have a damn good look at why Alcohol is so important in my life, if It were me.
Your health is at risk here and that of a baby- wise up.

there is no set answer as the drug affects everyone differently. when i was working, i told everyone 48 hrs. no one ever told me that got sick. i’ve had students who told me they had a beer while
on metronidzole and didn’t get sick. it’s a bit of a crap shoot.

the process and speed of certain medications very depending on the person. if o were you, i would NOT drink any type of alcohol because it could alter your body’s natural functions or it could make you very sick. Also, if you have been going to sleep at diffrent time, it can alter the speed and function in which your body carries out its functions, so if you have been going to sleep at different times, it could just be taking longer for your body to get it out of your system.
