Can your location cause more frequent vaginal infections? IS this yeast or BV?

I moved to a different state about 4 years ago. I became pregnant with my 3 year old shortly after and since then have suffered from more frequent BV and Yeast infections. The doctors don’t always even find anything on the smear, but I constantly have an odor now which was NEVER a problem before. (The nurse suggested this might be my "natural odor", I was mortified.) Seriously, I have even been complimented by past partners for never having a smelly problem. And yes, I have been tested 2x in 3 years for every STD!
As you can imagine, in 3 1/2 yrs I have tried everything! Rx, OTC, douching (new for me), not douching, vaginal wipes, no baths, non fragranced vaginal soaps, suppositories, changing my diet, changing my panties, wearing panty liners, having my IUD removed, etc. The only thing I haven’t tried is garlic or vinegar, but if I am having odor (not fishy) with no itching, irritation, burning, or any thing else it seems silly to add a stinky item to the mix. I am at an utter loss here and my sex life with my hubby is suffering along with my self confidence. I just gave birth to my third son 6 weeks ago and I am breastfeeding. This problem continued during the pregnancy and postpartum. HELP PLEASE!!!!

  1. Dr. DOLY says:

climate is not important – possibilities are – 1) reduced immune system because of pregnancy and delivery – 2) dramatic change in vaginal micro flora (change in hygienic products?!?) – 3) partner with infections; – try some effective natural remedies for longer period – see below

  2. Sheila Rainey says:

The only thing that I have heard that works for BV – and your symptoms are DEFINITELY BV, not a yeast infection – is taking baths instead of showers, wearing ONLY cotton panties that are always washed at least once in HOT water, NEVER wearing tight or spandex pants or leggings, and going without underwear when you are able to allow your normal pH to take care of the bacteria. If you do all these things AND take a last round of antibiotics, it should take care of it. But I truly wouldn’t be self-conscious about this – we ALL have our own smell, and men are so lucky to be able to get anywhere near a vagina, believe me, they do not care if it has a bit more of a smell than others they might have had, honestly. A huge discharge or bumps or a sweaty dirty smell are all they would stress about (according to my hubby)! So do what you can, and stop obsessing over it – the only thing that has made us so self-conscious is jerks with "tuna" jokes, and they think it smells like tuna because THEY are sleeping with skanks!
