Kiana – Any woman can get bacterial vaginosis (BV). Some women with BV don’t know they have it because they have no symptoms. Women who have never had sexual intercourse may also be affected by BV, and it is common in pregnant women. Having BV can increase a woman’s susceptibility to other STDs. Pregnant women may deliver premature or low birth-weight babies.
Although BV will sometimes clear up without treatment, all women with symptoms of BV should be treated to avoid complications. Male partners generally do not need to be treated. However, BV may spread between female sex partners.
BV is treatable with antibiotics prescribed by a health care provider. Two different antibiotics are recommended as treatment for BV: metronidazole or clindamycin. Either can be used with non-pregnant or pregnant women, but the recommended dosages differ.

bacterial vaginosis help?

I think i might have BV.. I bought and took an Vagisil screening kit test for vaginal infections and the results showed that my pH was an 5.0 which means i either have BV or or Trichomoniasis but im pretty sure i have BV( unpleasant odor & unusual discharge) So my question is what should i do. I dont have insurance so should i go to a free clinic to get tested and treatment or Planned parenthood( I made an appt with them for friday but they said i would have to pay at least 140, depends on how much i make weekly but my pay varies every week. Or would i be able to just go to the ER? Would that be cheaper? Or should i make an appt with an OB/GYN (Dont have an Ob) Im looking for the cheapest route without insurance.
I realize that a free clinic is free.. I dont know where one is in my area and if they offer treatment

Bacterial Vaginosis Help?

Did any of you ladies ever get this? Can you get this bacteria from tampons, how do you treat this? I am sexually active and I only had sex with one person unprotected but whenever he comes in me, it starts to smell really gross after it comes out, after a few days it goes away, I don’t have any pain of anything down there. I read these symptoms online and what comes up in BV and I’m worried. I’m going to make an appointment with my gynecologist tomorrow. How do they test for this and how do they cure this? HELP

There is no cure for bacterial vaginosis antibiotics can be prescribed but some woman have it constantly return. You just have to "take care" of your vagina. This means eating a lot of yogurt, yogurt is really good for your vagina its the key to a healthy one. By eating yogurt you can prevent a lot of infections (not std’s of course) but ones like yeast infections and so. Drink a lot of water also and try to cut down on salt intake. Be sure to wash don’t douche though (this can cause bacterial vaginosis. Use a mild soap even a feminine wash like "summers eve" or "lemisol" which can restore the ph balance, but yeah Bacterial Vaginosis cannot be cure you just have to improve on your vagina lol so that symptoms can go away like when having bv you tend to have a lot of vaginal discharge and yes it can get smelly also but in your case I doubt that’s what you have its nothing to be worried about. Your vagina probably got this way because your not using a condom which i s very common, condoms actually help keep your vagina clean. Hope I helped:)
    This page explains it all:

    http://www.medicinenet.com/bacterial_vaginosis/article.htm

P.S. don’t douche as this gets rid of both good and bad bacteria and douching will wash away both leaving you more vulnerable to vaginal infections. Douching is the biggest mistake a female could ever make. and just in case be sure to be tested for an std as this could also be the problem, if your not sure about your partner.

  2. Mai says:

Yes while making use of tampons always ensure that you change at regular intervals. change your pad and tampon at least once in few hours even if your flow is light.
Sometimes the male semen which is alkaline in nature can tip off the acidic balance of your vagina and cause this bacterial infection women commonly face. To ensure that the semen does not upset your vaginal flora please always make use of condoms.
For immediate relief from vaginosis make use of natural cures for bv. These are safe home treatment methods which offer permanent relief from the infection.

Bacterial Vaginosis help.?

Hey everyone,

So i know that i have bacterial vaginosis… what type of oral antibiotics should i take to get rid of it. In my country you do not need a prescription at the pharmacy to access drugs, so i just need to know which ones to buy, how many milligrams, ect.

Or should i just keep the area clean and dry and wait it out?

Thank you.

    Hi Carrie,

I’m very sorry to hear that you’ve been suffering from symptoms for so long.

I’m glad you thought ahead to protect your child.

Yes, you should probably think about getting checked out again if you think you are suffering symptoms. Remember, an infection can flare up at any time–pretty quickly, too.

There are many natural remedies you can perform at home, if you’d like. There are also tons of ways to prevent another infection–you just need to read up and educate yourself.

I’ll give you a couple very important tips I’ve learned myself:

    1) If you’re having sex, use a condom every time. I know you probably don’t want to, but studies have shown that this is one of THE BEST ways to prevent a worsening of symptoms or a reinfection.

    2) Wear cotton panties. Avoid thongs, especially those made of synthetic materials. Cotton will allow airflow to the vagina, thus drying out the environment to make it harder for bacteria to grow.

Try your best to eat as healthy as possible and get as much sleep as possible (though I know that might be hard with the new child and all).

Read up and educate yourself! The best way to treat BV is to prevent it from happening in the first place!

Bacterial Vaginosis, HELP!?

Okay I have been diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis about a year in a half ago, I have been treated several times with metroidazole which yes helps but not for long, the only symptoms I have are discharge and the foul odor which are the worst ones. I had read and research BV for about 5 months now, I have order the book online "How the cure bacterial vaginosis in 3 days" and I even order Femanol. Nothing has worked yet. I was pretty sure the femanol would of work because I spent 70 dollars on it but, I have had no luck! I even before that went out and bought hydrogen peroxide and douched with that and water, I bought folic acid pills, acidophilus pills, garlic pills, yogurt to eat, and I even bought the apple cider vinegar to bathe in. I dont know what else to do. Am I buying the right pills because their are so many to choose from? What kind of yogurt do I need to buy? What else can I try? These are some things that I plan on tying next; RePhresh, femdophilus, and I want to try inserting yogurt vaginally, but what kind do I get to do that, flavor and brand? I dont want websites so dont give me those because I have mostly likely done seen it okay! I just need some help and advice. Thank You

    get a turkey baster

get chocalate ice cream get some ham (leave on counter for 3 days get orange peels get activia (any flavour let stand on counter for a day get some week old bread blend it all up and insert in vagina 3 times then u se a vibrator to get it in there let it stay infor 6 hours and then in a week it will be all gone

  3. miko says:

Hmmm…first I am not an MD so I can only speculate and make a suggestion…The first being to go back to the doctor and start over on a medically supervised treatment. I think the treatment(s) may not be working because you have not elimated the source of your BV. If I were you I would stop all sexual contact until the problem is cured. In addition have you considered that you may not have BV and that perhaps you have a secondary infection?

  4. LINDA R says:

See another doctor for a second (medical professional's) opinion. There are no home remedies for BV. It can only be cured with antibiotics. Make sure you always take the entire course of antibiotics the doctor prescribes. Don't stop taking them just because you are feeling better.

  1. ltprph says:

Try live culture yogurt or Lactobacillus (acidophilus). Usually BV is caused by replacement of normal flora (good bacteria) by others and these remedies may help to replenish the good bacteria.

  2. cookiemonster5210 says:

try using some type of vagicaine medicine to help with the itching or try using gold bond medicated powder sprinkle just a little in your panties or on a panty liner in your panties

  3. kitty says:

bv is treated with antibiotics…which often lead to a decline in the levels of good bacteria that aid in killing off yeast…so sometimes the treating of bv can lead to a yeast infection…which often can feel similar and be confused with bv. douching is bad it forces stuff (what ever people use) into the vagina and can cause a change in the pH level which will lead to more infections. if you are having intense itching chances are you have a yeast infection not bv. although bv does cause itching intense itching is usually yeast. if you have antibiotic caused yeast infection that is really bad you probably need to see a doctor to get a script to kill it… a really bad one sometimes cannot be curred by over the counter medication. oh and sitting in a tub with vinegar will not be forcing it inside your body, it will just be touching the outside and may help alleviate discomfort.

  3. AALLIISS says:

Ask her to make an apt for you with the gyno. She will surely ask you why and that will open the door

  4. Wyntersmile says:

Are you sure you have Bacterial Vaginosis? You might just have a yeast infection. Maybe you can tell your mom that you just finished your menstrual cycle and you noticed that your vaginal odor has changed and you'd like to be seen by a doctor.

  5. lily says:

well hate to break it to you but bacterial vaginosis is very awkward and the only thing that is going to make this whole situation better is the proper treatment which is metrogel. You must go to the gynecologist promptly because this requires a prescription and the pH of your vagina is way off right now. The infection will only progress and become worse. Look up planned parenthood in your area to see if there is one and call to make sure you can receive treatment underage as a minor. If they allow it, which they probably will, and you have cash, and transportation to get there and pay for treatment go ahead and do so immediately. If not be upfront with mom, you have no choice, trust me you don't want this to get worse.

  6. Iraina C says:

BV is not sexually transmitted, it is caused from an inbalance of the pH level in the vagina..and is caused by just about anything from lotions to bath salts and swimming..
it is nothing to be scared about, every woman will get one or more during her lifetime..
so just tell your mom and have her take you to the GYN.
    i was a student for an OB/GYN.

  7. Kevin H says:

RepHresh restores and maintains the PH level. PH imbalance is what causes BV.

  8. Debra says:

I have a partial hysterectomy, I still have my ovaries. I am 57 yrs old and don’t know if I’m menopausal because of my hysterectomy. Since my hysterectomy I’ve had odor problems which the over the counter products don’t seem to help. I bought a Vagisil screening test to see if I have a infection. Will it work in my case?
