i had bacterial vaginosis when i was 15 and id never has sex before and i am completely clean. the main symptoms are:
1. your vagina smells very fishy, most noticeably after your period and after sexual intercourse (which youve never had)
2. your discharge is very watery and it kinda feels like youve wet yourself

the infection is completely natural and normal so you have nothing to worry about. oh and nothing major causes it either, its kinda random. the main things that cause it is when the bacteria from your anus is passed to the bacteria in your vagina or when the natural PH in your vagina is unbalanced (your shower gel can cause this, use ones that are natural and without perfume and stuff).

you cant get rid of it without going to the doctor, they dont have to examine you so dont be embarased, just decribe your symptomes and explain that you think you have bacterial vaginosis to the doctor. thats what i did and they prescribed me an antibiotic that cleared it up in a week.
hope this helps!

Having a bacterial infection or a yeast infection, doesn't mean you are 'dirty'. There is always good bacteria in your body as well as yeast. Usually they are kept in check.

Signs of yeast infections:
White, cottage cheese-like discharge
Swelling and pain around the vulva
Intense itching

If you have diabetes mellitus or are pregnant or taking oral contraceptives (birth control pills) or antibiotics you may get an infection. The use of douches or perfumed vaginal hygiene sprays may also increase a woman's risk of developing a vaginal yeast infection. Improper ventilation - say wearing nylons too long, tight pants, etc, can contribute to getting an infection.

Signs of bacterial vaginosis:
A white, gray or yellowish vaginal discharge
A fishy odor that is strongest after sex or after washing with soap
Itching or burning
Slight redness and swelling of the vagina or vulva

Taking Acidophilus usually helps 'prevent' an infection, it's never helped me cure one. It's treated with antibiotics. Fecal material can make its way into the vagina from not wiping front to back or from wearing thongs that move around too much or from dirty hands.
