Unfortunately there is nothing you can take that will cure bv over the counter. I would contact planned parenthood, they have free and discounted services available. You need to get this taken care of, if left untreated you are at risk of Pelvic Inflamitory Disease. I have had this problem for the past five months. I posted a question about this and got really good feedback here's the link http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AtL0m1K_cN5yt4RJp5lzeWvsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090506012142AAyuEij

Well I dont have health insurance and haven't had it for quite a while now…but I found some great programs that payed for my yest infection treatment and my yearly visit to the dr. Just ask for more information in your community and see if they have some low-cost programs which I'm sure they do…but I would recommend going to the dr…I dont think that there are any over the counter medicines.

Unfortunately when you have an infection such as bnacterial vaginosis, you need to take an antibiotic described by your doctor. There's no home remedy that will get rid of it.

I knew a girl that had that and the dr told her that she needed to add yogurt to her diet and it seemed to help her and cranberry juice. Hope this helps you too!!! Goood luck.

you can try to take oil of oregano. you can buy it from a health store. it tastes like REALLY strong oregano. you put a few drops under your tongue, 3 times a day, or as required.

oil of oregano is a very strong natural antibacterial. i am not sure if it will work on vaginosis, but it might! give it a try. :)

  4. tinaluvsunset says:

No! You must get an antibiotic from your Dr. More than likely he/she will prescribe Flagyl.

You have to go to the doctor to get evaluated so you can take the right atibiotics for it.

nope not at all and if you dont get it treated it can worsen and lead to a yeast infection the 2 combined are not fun
its nothing to be embarrased about go to your doctor they will either perscribe you a pil or cream and the symptoms go away really fast they might also perscribe a pill for yeast infection because the medicine often causes yeast infections

bacteria vaginosis is a bacteria that naturally lives in a womens body like yeast.it takes something to make it over grow.its a harmless thing that you can test positive for and some doctors wont even treat you for it unless you are showing symptoms.it cant harm you its just a nussance.make sure the area stays dry .wear cotton panties, its almost like treating a yeast infection.try to have the least amount of sexual partners as possible they have discovered a link between bacteria vaginosis and multipul sex partners if you absolutley cannot control the symptoms at home you have to see you doctor.for treatment or you will start to smell like the ocean (not good)

no.. u need a rx cream and antibiotics.. I let mine go for several weeks (thought it was yeast).. the MD couldn't even get the speculum in.. I was so swollen and sore.. It can spread into ur ovaries, etc so get tx..from MD

  4. juneaulady says:

nope – you need to see a dr. and get treated. It can also be passed back and forth between you and a partner.

Most bacterial vaginosis cases are caused by Gardnerella vaginitis bacteria. You need antibiotics to kill it.

I don't think so, but here's some info I looked up for you.

BV is treatable with antibiotics prescribed by a health care provider. Two different antibiotics are recommended as treatment for BV: metronidazole or clindamycin. Either can be used with non-pregnant or pregnant women, but the recommended dosages differ. Women with BV who are HIV-positive should receive the same treatment as those who are HIV-negative.

BV can recur after treatment. How is BV treated?
The clinician can prescribe an antibiotic, taken by mouth, called metronidazole or Flagyl®. There is also a vaginal cream. This medicine can cause nausea or a metal aftertaste in the mouth for some people. Take it with food. DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL ANY TIME WHILE TAKING THIS MEDICINE. This medicine can cause severe nausea and vomiting when combined with alcohol. Either use a condom or do not have sex until you have finished taking the antibiotic. The clinician can order antibiotic vaginal creams or gels which work just as well, but the cost is higher. The side effects are less with vaginal antibiotics.

God Bless and thanks for reading.

Whenever I get a yeast infection, I just use a tampon plunger to put plain yogurt in there. It has this ingredient called acidophilous, which helps fight the bacteria. It works great. Do this for about 5-7 days each night at bedtime and you'll see an improvement.

PS – Would the poster above me please site a source so we can read the full information on that web page? Thanks.
