I know that a vagina with a fish odor can “sometimes” be due to a yeast infection or maybe a bacterial infection or maybe something else. In the past I have had both a yeast and bacterial infection and a fishy odor was indeed one of the symptoms along with the other such as itch and discomfort and discharge.

Yesterday I noticed a very slight fishy odor again i went to the doc yesterday and i tested negative for any problems however, i still have that odor it’s very light unlike the previous one I had and it smells like fishy (like tuna) is this normal in some cases?
i just finished my period on Sunday, I don't know if that matters or has anything to do with the smell , it a very light odor and I can only smell it when i sniff the toilet paper after wiping my self (sorry for too much info)

  1. Ummm, if you can only smell it when you sniff the toilet paper, that kind of begs the question – do you have a habit of sniffing dirty toilet paper? How would you have known you had an odor to sniff if you weren’t just sniffing for fun? Gross.

  2. Do you have an IUD? If so you may have paper caught on the strings that is causing the odor. If not Try douching 1x and if it still does not clear up then go see your DR again. It may have been to early to test Or it may be a cleanliness issue.

  3. A slight odor is not uncommon. It is when it becomes overpowering that you have a problem.

I noticed that some people are recommending that you douche. That is the worst possible thing that you can do. Douching is bad for your vagina and will likely only make the problem come back worse. Would you swallow soap if your burps smelled funny?

  4. USUALLY a fishy odor means some type of infection. However, there is somewhat of an odor during and after menstruation, for some women. Just monitor it over the next couple days. If it still seems to linger, then I would suggest you go to the doctor, or do some over-the-counter vaginal/yeast infection cream.

  5. dont wash with soap it disturbes the chemical balance, if thrush and i dnt no where u live but in aust use DiFLUCAN Duo never had thrush since. some women just smell fishy =] sex can affect this buy putting germs into the vagina, maybe invest in vagina wash?

    i hope this helped u

stupid men:P only like there fish on a plate

  6. I would first recommend the following:
    1. Wash that area with soap and water. Use that cloth only of cleaning that private area.

    2. You should change your panties daily.

    3. You should not sleep in any panties, to allow aeration.

    4.Consider using a douche.

I thinks this is just a matter for more hygiene care, than a medical issue.

  7. well since you just had your period it could be the vagina still cleaning itself wait a few days.

  8. yes any time your lil girl friend smell other then she is suppose to smell there is a problem. foul smells mean there is something wrong. sister got to the Dr. you can cause other problems to happen just with that fish smell we r to smell pretty not fishy
    good luck

  9. Sorry fishy smell is usually due to a bacterial infection. If you are only smelling when you sniff the toliet paper then it’s probably nothing. Your own odor mixed with the scent of the toilet paper, being exposed to air, just having had your period could all influence the scent.

Once you start puberty a white and/or clear, non-foul smelling discharge (mucous) is normal. The vagina is self-cleaning. You will also have your own ‘scent’ (musky) and it will smell stronger to you than to others.

A watery, yellowish or greenish bubbly discharge
    An unpleasant odor
